The network became aware of a case in which an Apple Watch Ultra smartwatch saved 26-year-old technician Kshitij Zodape from Mumbai, who found himself in a critical situation while diving in the Bay of Bengal.
According to the victim, at a depth of about 36 meters, his weight belt suddenly broke, which caused a sharp and uncontrolled rise to the surface. As is known, a sharp rise of a person from depth to the surface can lead to serious lung damage.
Due to the loss of ballast, the diver was unable to stop his ascent. At that moment, the Apple Watch Ultra on his wrist detected a rapid change in depth. At first, the device displayed a warning about the danger of a rapid ascent, but since it was impossible to stop the ascent, the watch activated an emergency siren.
A loud signal, different from the usual underwater noises, was heard by a diving instructor who was nearby Zodape. The instructor quickly returned to the victim and helped him stabilize the situation. By that time, the diver had already risen to about 10 meters.
Kshitij Zodape later admitted that he was unaware of the watch's ability to detect a fire. After the incident, he wrote a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook, sharing his story. Tim Cook personally responded to him and thanked him for the story. He praised the instructor's quick response to the alarm and wished Zodape well.
