Japanese investment bank Mizuho Securities said that Apple is preparing to significantly reduce production volumes of the iPhone Air model, The Elec reports. According to analysts, the company will reduce the forecast for the release of this smartphone by 1 million units by the end of the year.
The reason for this decision was the sales results, which were lower than the company's expectations, especially in comparison with other models of the line. At the same time, according to Mizuho Securities, demand for the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max exceeded Apple's forecasts. In this regard, the production of these models will be increased: iPhone 17 — by 2 million units, iPhone 17 Pro - by 1 million, and iPhone 17 Pro Max — by 4 million.
Overall, Mizuho Securities estimates that Apple will increase total iPhone production from 88 million to 94 million units, with the reduction in iPhone Air production being offset by increased production of other models.
The report also notes that the launch of the foldable iPhone may be delayed until 2027. This is due to the fact that Apple needs time to refine the design and specifications of components, in particular the hinge.
Recall that the iPhone Air is the company's thinnest smartphone with a thickness of 5.6 mm, which was released in September this year along with the iPhone 17 line. The model has a titanium frame, a new A19 Pro chip, a single 48 MP main camera, and a 6.5-inch display with a frequency of up to 120 Hz and a brightness of 3000 nits.
The smartphone is reported to have a 3149 mAh battery, and Apple promised "24/7" battery life during the model's presentation thanks to its optimized architecture. iPhone Air sales start at $999 worldwide.
Earlier, information also appeared about a possible reduction in production of another thin smartphone - Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. It is reported that due to poor sales of this model, the company may abandon the launch of its successor — S26 Edge.
