Nearly 15 years after its launch, Instagram has reached a new record of 3 billion monthly active users, Mark Zuckerberg announced in Threads. In 2022, the social network had an audience of 2 billion.
Meta rarely publishes precise data about its services, but it is known that in 2023, Facebook had 2 billion daily users, and WhatsApp exceeded 2 billion monthly users back in 2020. In total, the company counted 3.48 billion daily active users on Facebook, WhatsApp, and Messenger last quarter.
Instagram's figures come as it prepares for a major change to the app. According to Bloomberg, Meta plans to further enhance the role of Reels. Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri confirmed that the app will feature a revamped navigation bar that will focus on private messages and Reels. In addition, South Korea and India are testing a feature that will make Reels the main feed.
These innovations coincide with negotiations in the US, where a deal is being prepared for the future of TikTok. Despite the uncertainty, TikTok remains Instagram's main competitor.
