Apple is significantly reducing production of the thin iPhone Air and shifting its focus to the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro models, MacRumors reports, citing a Nikkei report.
The report notes that the sharp reduction in iPhone Air production is due to weaker-than-expected consumer demand, almost to "end of production levels." Even in China, where the model had previously been reported to be selling well, overall interest has been moderate. In other regions, demand also remains quite low.
The full extent of the production cuts is currently unknown, as are the specific suppliers that will be affected. However, it is expected to bring significant changes to Apple's supply chain over the next few months.
As for other current iPhone models, they have shown a good start. According to Counterpoint Research, sales of the iPhone 17 in the US and China – key markets for Apple – exceeded the results of the iPhone 16 by 14% in the first 10 days. The base model of the iPhone 17 attracted the most users, but demand also increased for the premium iPhone 17 Pro Max.
By the way, the iPhone Air is not the only thin smartphone that has not met expectations. Earlier it was reported that Samsung canceled the release of the Galaxy S26 Edge due to low sales of the current model.
