Google has begun rolling out a new Drive feature that lets you create audio reviews of PDF documents using AI. The feature was previously exclusive to NotebookLM, a Google tool that helps researchers and students analyze materials in podcast format, Android Authority reports.

Now users can open any PDF in Drive and click a button to create an audio summary that turns the document into a short podcast between two and ten minutes long. The summary plays in a new tab as a regular audio file and is stored separately in Google Drive. There’s also the ability to interact with Gemini via the sidebar by entering text queries.

While the feature is currently only available on the web version of Drive, Google plans to add support for mobile apps. At the same time, users can't yet interact with AI hosts or use transcriptions and progress syncing, but the company promises to improve these capabilities.

The feature is not free – it is only available to paid Google Workspace (Enterprise and Education versions) or Gemini (Pro and Ultra) subscribers. Audio reviews are starting to appear gradually to users, and in the coming weeks the feature will be available worldwide. Initially, only English-language documents will be supported.
